February is one of those months that some people love or hate (or love to hate), and I feel somewhere in the middle… Is anyone else counting down the days until spring like me?!
While winter is still here and going strong, we might as well embrace and enjoy every minute of it. And hey, Valentine’s Day is just a week away! If you’re still looking for ways on how to show love on this particular day (or any other day if you wish), here’s 5 affordable ideas for you and your loved ones.
1. Cook up a storm in the kitchen.
Whether you do it often or not, it’s always a nice gesture to cook for your loved one. Get your favorite recipe or find something you always wanted to try and just make it together! You will not only save money on eating at home, but also save yourself some stress when you avoid making those last minute dinner reservations.
2. Celebrate each other’s passions.
We all get busy with work and responsibilities sometimes, but it’s important to always make time for your special someone. I believe there is nothing more powerful than letting your partner know that you support his passions. Me and Rapha always try to be fair and devote equal amount of time to what we love doing individually. He knows taking photos and traveling makes me happy, and I know he can’t live without sports or playing disc golf. Even though my passions might not be his favorite things, the fact he does those things with me without twisting his arms makes me feel really special. And I’m happy to do the same for him!

3. Surprise your family.
Valentine’s Day is not just about your significant other. Make sure you shower with love all of your loved ones! This year, I finally got to host my mom in America (after not seeing each other for over 4 years) and I made sure she felt loved. We celebrated so many occasions while she visited just because we don’t get to see each other often. The best part about showing love is that you don’t need to spend a lot of money on your dear ones, it’s the company that counts!

4. Make a personalized gift.
There’s nothing better than a thoughtful gift, even if you didn’t spend any money of it. It’s actually even better if you don’t. For me, it’s a thought that counts and time + effort into making something special for your loved ones. I love writing letters, cards, making memorable photo books or personalized shirts for my friends and family.
Make your Galentine feel special as well!
Another great idea for wine lovers? Grab your leftover wine corks (thanks, Honig Winery!) and make a heart or craft another special message!

5. The Penny Date Idea.
Like to be spontaneous and go with the flow? I recently came across this date idea on the Internet and immediately wanted to do it. Here are the rules:
- Get ready to go out and grab a penny.
- Let your partner choose a number between 10 and 20.
- Head out on the road and begin flipping. Heads it right, tails is left.
- Every time you come to a junction, flip the the penny and turn into that direction.
- Once you get to the number, STOP.
- Look around. Make a date where you are.

This post was so cute babe! I love all your ideas for showing love on Valentines day that are all very affordable too! Especially the last idea with the penny! I would probably have to drive somewhere more central first because if we did that right out of our house we would probably end up on somebody’s farm! lol!

That’s so sweet that you were able to celebrate Valentine’s Day a little earlier with your mom! I’m sure it must be a little hard to be so far apart, but I’m also sure that when you do spend time together, it’s the best time spent. Also, I LOVE your kitchen! It looks so cozy. Thanks for sharing these ideas with us, girlie, and I hope you’re having a wonderful day so far!
